About CAPE Training Programs

CAPE programs are available to healthcare professionals from all fields in medicine. While our center’s name encompasses pediatric and perinatal medicine, the principles covered in our instructor and debriefing programs apply to the implementation of simulation-based training in all areas of healthcare. Participants in CAPE’s programs are practicing clinicians, clinical educators, administrative leaders, and risk managers and patient safety officials.

You should come to CAPE if you were seeking to start or grow your understanding and skills for conducting simulation-based training and research. You will participate in high-yield, intensive training from experienced leaders in healthcare simulation and debriefing.

CAPE's dynamic, engaging approach to training makes for an intense and fulfilling experience. We minimize lectures and focus on small-group work and experiential learning. Participants can expect to receive real-time feedback from CAPE’s expert faculty on scenario design, scenario conduct, and debriefings. Participants will learn strategies and tactics to ensure the success of their program’s simulations and debriefings in any area of healthcare.

All of CAPE’s instructors are practicing healthcare professionals with clinical expertise in pediatrics, neonatology, and obstetrics who take care of patients at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and area hospitals within Stanford Children’s Health. Many also serve on faculty and staff in the Stanford University School of Medicine. CAPE’s staff team is skilled in recreating the human interactions, stressful conditions and complex environmental cues that exist during actual clinical crises, as well as recording and debriefing events to facilitate reflection on individual and team performance.

CAPE’s most popular programs are the Simulation Instructor Program and the Online Debriefing Program, which are designed for those who are responsible for developing or growing simulation-based training programs and methodologies at their home institutions.  

CAPE continues to provide training programs for healthcare professionals actively engaged in patient care and who wish to improve their clinical skills. These programs are offered for Stanford affiliates only and cover a variety of clinical areas including neonatal resuscitation, ECMO, critical care transport, and difficult conversations with patients/families and prenatal counseling. CAPE’s team can help you develop similar programs for your own institution.
